Man's sensual and sexual body

Leonardo Davinci said:

"The penis does not obey the order of it's master, who tries to erect it or shrink it at will... instead the penis erects freely while it's master is asleep."

The erect penis varies in the height it reaches, when erect, this picture is average in height and length.

A) The head of the penis is known as the Glans; with a fold of skin on the underside known as the frenulum. These two areas are the most sensitive areas on the penis.

B) The scrotum, home of the reproductive sex organs, responsible for the production of hormones, such as testosterone, as well as sperm. These are delicate, and while most men enjoy them being held, this needs to be done with some sensitivity, and they are not to be squeezed hard or leant on be a knee or an elbow.... now matter how much or how long played with a man will not reach orgasm, by this alone.

C) The shaft is full of erectile tissue which is what creates the erection when the man becomes aroused, as men get older this will need more physical stimulation than is needed for young men.

Length.... The length of a penis varies greatly when the penis is in a flaccid state.... However when erect it is absolutely true, no matter how many myths you have heard, that most men are very similar in size when erect. The Vast majority of men are between 6 and 7 inches (150 - 180 cm) long when erect, this is true for all races - It is a myth that some ethnic groups are larger than others, it is simply not true. However that extra one inch may seem a long way when very close up, and of course there are exceptions to this norm. (Interestingly this same length is evidently also the best selling size for vibrators! So the way bodies have evolved and market forces agree on this being the best size! The appearance if the penis size is effected by how much fat there is in the pubic area… often in overweight men more than 2cm may be hidden by excess fat.

The length has nothing to do with skill, knowledge and sensitivity as a lover, although in some studies some women do say they prefer a larger penis, while others are put off by them.

Many men have tried suction machines and various creams and lotions and potions to enlarge their penis size, however they do not work...

The Prostate gland, If either a finger or for gay lovers a penis is inserted into the rectum, on the front wall of the rectum is a highly sensitive area, for many men this being massaged  is a very exciting experience.

So just how is the penis controlled?

"The penis does not obey the order of it's master, who tries to erect it or shrink it at will... instead the penis erects freely while it's master is asleep."

  • The Central Nervous system is the answer, via the autonomic nervous system.

  • When at rest the sympathetic nervous system actively reduces the blood flow to the penis.

  • When aroused the para-sympathetic nervous system actively supplies and organises the blood flow... creating an erection and maintaining it.

  • In arousal, excitement signals from the brain in response to smells, sights and thoughts and physical stimulation of the genitals.

  • As a result of the signals from nerves in the penis release chemicals which cause the walls of the arteries in the penis to relax.

  • That creates an erection, as the spongy tissue in the penis fill with blood.

  • As these spongy tissues fill and expand the put pressure on the veins, and so increasing the pressure even more, and increasing the erection.

  • The arousal circuit is completed by the penis sending signals back to the brain about how it feeling... so increasing the feelings of arousal.

  • After orgasm the sympathetic system again limits the flow to the penis.

Erection problems.... 40% of 40 year olds have some problems with erections... many of these are caused by physical problems, for example diabetes.... If you have any concerns about these matters... it is therefore very important to get a full medical check up before deciding there is a psychological or technique problem.

However as a psychotherapist I was delighted to read the following in the Scientific America.... "and because a man's moods and mental well-being effect the flow of nerve messages to the penis it is not surprising that stress, depression, anxiety, or anger often underlies erection difficulties...."

The adult male journey towards orgasm is much more focused on his penis rather than the woman's is on her clitoris, women can reach orgasm in a multitude of ways whereas a man reaches orgasm only through direct stimulation of his penis. The exception is a young man’s wet dreams in sleep and loss of control in petting situations! However in these situations it is highly likely that the penis will still have been stimulated.

The first stage is when the man becomes sexually excited, his penis becomes erect, and his heart rate increases.

The second phase is a plateau phase in which the man reaches a high level of arousal and yet is still some way of orgasm, skilled lovers can maintain this phase for long periods of time, over half an hour is common, and much longer, this time is used to delight in the art of the sexual encounter.

If this is too short a time there are techniques to lengthen it by gripping the shaft of the penis, tightly before moving to the climax stage. The penis is held tightly just behind the glans. The key is to changing the focus and to slow down  before this!

The third stage is his climax, good lovers with practice can bring themselves to this point time and again before letting themselves go on through to the climax.

The seminal sex fluid quickly fills the lower part of the urethral tube, once this occurs the orgasm must happen, nothing can stop it, there is a gush of sex fluids from the prostate and nearby glands, this overwhelms the tubes which swell and then pump out the fluid, which then surges out of the end of the penis.

These surges are extremely pleasurable for the man, similar to the reported experience of women, tremendous pleasure starting at the base of the penis and sweeping upwards with an urge when engaged in intercourse to thrust deeply into his partner, which increases his pleasure.

Only about 5mls of fluid is discharged in this way, and it can travel anything from not far, up to 1 metre away, the normal is a few centre metres. One great statistic is that it is estimated that in the UK 20,000 litres of seminal fluid is produced every night!!

After the orgasm the penis may be very sensitive, there is then a quiet phase where usually the penis returns to the flaccid stage.

Men can learn to keep or regain an erection relatively quickly when engaged in intense sexual activity and men can also have more than one orgasm, this usually takes more time than for a woman to have more than one orgasm and the man will need extra direct and often vigorous stimulation to have a second / third and fourth orgasm… As each orgasm is often more intense there is much less semen on ejaculation.

This information is often very important for men who come too quickly... If they do not give up and focus on giving their lover pleasure, for example by gently rubbing her clitoris with his penis, his erection may well return and with stimulation he will be able to have further orgasms.

Joint attributes.... For both men and women:

A) All the rest of the body, arms, legs, back, stomach, neck, face, feet, hands, lips, some areas will be intensely sensitive to touch, learn how you and your partners like to be touched.

B) The inner person, their fantasies, desires, dreams, make love with the whole person, they will appreciate it! Some women can reach orgasm, through fantasy alone, without the need for external stimulation.

C) The Anus is a highly erogenous zone, for both men and women; NB do not go from massaging the anus to stimulating the vulva, this is because of the risk of infection, simply wash your hands / penis / vibrator etc first.
