Sexually Transmitted Disease
STD's or VD's are spread person to person via oral, anal, or genital sexual
activity. The "nasties" that cause STD's are common, however they require, moist
warm conditions to survive, therefore do not survive outside of the body for
more than a few minutes. (Before you rush out to have safe sex in the local
fridge freezer… it is unfortunately that is no protection; your body still keeps
warm!)
Types of STD: Please do go to your local doctor for a proper diagnosis and
treatment... if you suspect you have a problem:
|
Non Specific Urethritis (NSU) |
The most common of the STD's, usually caused by Chlamydia, and effects men
more than women! |
|
Tingling in the tip of the penis, with a clear discharge, most obvious in
the morning, 1-5 weeks after contracting the disease. Women may have a
slight vaginal discharge. Can cause infertility in women. |
Treat all partners with antibiotics, even if they have no symptoms. |
|
Gonorrhea (The clap, Big G) |
Common in folk who have many sexual partners, |
|
the symptoms depend on the site of the infection, with discomfort on passing
urine, discharge of puss, mouth ulcers and pain and moistness in the anus. |
Treatment with antibiotics is essential, can cause infertility and serious
medical conditions. |
|
Genital herpes |
A viral disease, transmitted by direct body contact. many folk come into
contact with herpes and develop no symptoms but do acquire an immunity.
The first attack is usually the worst and lasts up to 3 weeks, subsequent
attacks are shorter and tend to occur when the person is run down. |
|
A genital rash with red and white itchy blisters. There may be pain on
passing urine, fever, and general discomfort. |
Abstain from sex during symptoms and use a condom for 4 weeks following an
attack.
There are currently no satisfactory treatments, only those which reduce the
impact of the infection. See your doctor! |
|
Genital warts |
A viral infection, appears up to 6 months after the infection, by direct
body contact. |
|
Warts on the genitals or anus. |
Treatment with creams |
|
Syphilis |
Fortunately a rare infection, more common in men than women and more common
in the homosexual community. |
|
The first symptom is a highly infectious sore (chancre), at the site of the
infection, usually the penis or anus. If this is unnoticed or not treated
then the symptom clears, after several more weeks a red rash appears
generally across the body, with highly infectious lumps around the anus.
If the illness is still not treated then the symptoms clear and after a long
period of many years, eventually a third of those who do not receive
treatment may develop various severe medical conditions, including
blindness, paralysis, and insanity, eventually causing death! |
Get treatment with anti-biotics from your doctor!!!
Avoid all sexual activity until the treatment is completed!!
If the threat of the long term effects does not worry you then there can be
little hope!! |
|
Thrush |
Unfortunately not the song bird, but the very very common fungal infection.
Often treated without medical consultation, talk to your pharmacist, however
if symptoms persist you know who to see... Dr who? |
|
Painful intercourse, white vaginal discharge areas of sore
irritations. |
Treatment with creams, and Treat all partners, otherwise you simply
re-infect each other!! |
|
HIV - Aids
Fortunately treatments are rapidly improving the prognosis, for folks with
the HIV virus. |
